The wild Waitaki River salmon population is in serious trouble. Something has to be done to enhance the salmon population.
The Waitaki Fisherpersons decided they would take action. Realising Fish and Game were not in a position to ameliorate the situation, they decided to do something themselves under the guidance of Fish and Game.

To speak on the collapse of the Salmon Fishery and what the National Sea Run Salmon Committee intends to do about it. There will be time for questions from the floor.

Sunday the 16th May 2021 at Bells Pond , Ross Road , Ikawai, commencing at 10am.
Would all members and interested persons please attend as the future of The hatchery will be discussed. We need our members to show that they are still interested in the Salmon Hatchery.
It is also a chance to visit the hatchery site and view the changes that have taken place over the last few years.
A BBQ and light refreshments will be available at the completion of the fin clipping.
Please bring wet weather gear as the fish will try and get you wet. This is a family fun day.
